Shiki is making a name for itself as
a top-flight traditional Japanese eatery. Though you can eat at Western-style tables, or
the sushi bar, there are also five tatami rooms available, where you sit around a raised
table on Japanese mats. Either way you can enjoy some good views over The Rocks (it's
especially magical at night when the ferry lights strung across the area's trees are lit
up). There is plenty of sushi, sashimi, and sukiyaki dishes on the menu, but
"pot-cooking" at the table is very popular. Of these the Tobanyaki, where
customers simmer a combination of beef and seafood on their own burner, steals the show.
If you want your main meal during the day, consider the lunch menu, costing between
A$13.50 (U.S.$9.45) and A$20 (U.S.$14). The sushi plate--with seven pieces of sushi, six
pieces of tuna roll, a salad, and miso soup--costs A$20 (U.S.$14).
