Wonderfully positioned opposite the Royal
Botanic Gardens and just a stroll away from many other main attractions, the hotel is
situated in the former Treasury building (later the VD clinic), built between 1849 and
1917. All rooms have been elegantly refurbished to unite 19th-century classicism with the
best of the 20th century. Half of the rooms have a harbor view and all come complete with
everything you'd expect, and some features, like a toaster, that might surprise you.
Special rooms for business travelers are slightly larger (and more expensive) and come
with dedicated business facilities: modem lines, printer, scanner, and fax machine.
Dining/Entertainment: Afternoon tea,
lunch, and cocktails are taken in the white marbled Cortile, the building's architectural
focal point. The Cortile features live classical music Wednesday through Sunday. One One
Seven, the hotel's fine-dining venue, is picking up quite a good reputation. The
30-Something Lounge on the 31st floor has panoramic views over Sydney Harbour and the
Royal Botanic Gardens and serves good pizzas and pasta. Sketches Bar & Bistro serves
freshly made pasta. Café Opera is an informal buffet specializing in sushi and
wok-prepared foods.
Facilities: Indoor pool, sauna, spa,
gym, power-walking classes, massage therapists, concierge, 24-hour room service, free
daily newspapers, nightly turndown, shoe shine, laundry, valet, baby-sitting, business
center, secretarial services, hair/beauty salon, gift shop, newsstand,
early-arrivals/late-departures lounge, currency exchange.
