Madonna, the late Princess Diana, Tom
Jones, George Bush, Neil Diamond--they've all stayed in this five-star darling of the
establishment, situated about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the city center in Sydney's
poshest harborside suburb. The grand lobby is decked out in a maritime theme, the
corridors are somberly lit, and antiques and Persian rugs are scattered tastefully here
and there. The large guest rooms are done in Regency style and are almost unnervingly
quiet. Everything you would expect at the best in town is here, from the enormous TV and
the fluffy bathrobes down to designer bathtub salts and a perfect, single rose. Most rooms
have balconies with water views.
Dining/Entertainment: The Grill
serves good continental cuisine in an intimate, elegant environment; the plush Bar is
popular for cigars and brandy; and The lobby lounge is wonderfully civilized for breakfast
and a favorite lunch and afternoon tea spot for the local social set.
Facilities: Heated rooftop pool,
fitness center, concierge, 24-hour room service, nightly turndown, twice-daily maid
service, valet, baby-sitting, separate kosher kitchen, business center, meeting
facilities, sundry/gift shop, currency exchange.
