The 14-story Menzies was built in 1963 as
Sydney's first premier hotel. It's positioned right in the center of town and sports one
of the city's few public clocks on top of its impressive facade. Rooms are spacious and
newly refurbished, decorated with colonial furniture and outfitted with a fax machine and
all the mod cons (modern conveniences). Deluxe rooms, as you'd expect, are slightly larger
and a touch more upscale. Though it took A$14 million (U.S.$9.8 million) to modernize it
in 1997, this hotel has retained its grand dame appeal.
Dining/Entertainment: The Carrington
Restaurant serves high-class à la carte meals and fabulous lunch and dinner buffets. A

Facilities: Indoor pool, sauna, spa,
massage, gym, concierge, 24-hour room service, free daily newspapers, nightly turndown,
