This boutique hotel is a sister to the Sebel of Sydney and in direct competition with the Rex and the landmark Parkroyal, all three of which I prefer to this older-style property. Rooms here are light and look out either across the city or onto the sailboats in Elizabeth Bay. There's a lot of 1970s wood grain around, and rooms have queen-size beds, pay-per-view movies, irons and ironing boards, and the like. Along with the views, the one thing this place does have in its favor is the superb service.

Dining/Entertainment: The Terrace is a comfortable restaurant serving pastas, steaks, and seafood.

Facilities: Outdoor heated pool, concierge, 24-hour room service, free daily newspapers, laundry, valet, and baby-sitting.
