The CityRail network offers passengers one of the most cost effective and
convenient ways to travel around Sydney and beyond. Whether you are a commuter or leisure
traveller, our comprehensive range of services offer total flexibility when it comes to
planning your trip. The CityRail network covers suburban Sydney and extends to the Hunter,
Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and South Coast regions. Our services begin around 4 -
5am in the morning and run till around midnight (later at some stations). After midnight,
Nightride bus services operate in the Sydney suburban area.
CityRail is
continuing to improve the facilities at our stations to assist customers with special
needs. At selected CityRail stations we provide enhanced facilities such as lifts or
ramps, continuous hand rails, hearing loops at ticket windows, wheelchair accessible
toilets and platform to train ramps for wheelchairs.

Customers with Special Needs
CityRail is aware
that some of our customers are dependent on wheelchairs or have mobility difficulties. To
assist us in making your journey easier we recommend you telephone the station you wish to
depart from prior to your journey so we can:
- Inform you if
the station is wheelchair accessible,
- make
arrangements for staff to be available,
- advise the
relevant train Guard, and
- make arrangements for
assistance at your destination.
Don't forget, our
staff are there to make sure your journey is safe, comfortable and enjoyable. If you would
like to obtain a copy of the "Accessing CityRail" brochure please contact your
local station.
Travelling at night
After 8pm in the
City and 7pm in outer suburbs, the Nightsafe trains operate. Nightsafe means that only the
two carriages nearest the train Guard are open to passengers, rather than passengers being
spread throughout the train. A bright blue external light indicates the location of the
Guard. When waiting for trains, you should walk along the station platforms to the
Nightsafe Area, clearly marked on the platform edge adjacent to where the Nightsafe
carriages will stop.
Every CityRail train
has two Security Guards on patrol from 7pm until the last service.
Buses replace
CityRail suburban trains during the early hours of the morning. Our suburban timetables
contain timetables for specific Nightride routes. All CityRail tickets are valid on
Nightride buses except Single rail tickets. Single tickets can be purchased from the Bus
Operator.
CityRail is
improving security at all our stations by introducing video surveillance cameras which are
locally monitored 24 hours a day, brighter lighting, press button Emergency Help Points
which put you through to a security control room.
